Safety Town Helped Girl Protect Herself During Dog Attack

"I don't think parents realize all of the life-saving things that kids can learn here," says Sheriff Sarah Hardin about Safety Town. Safety Town is an annual training event for children organized by St. Joseph Safety and Health Council, a United Way of Greater St. Joseph Partner Agency. The two-week program in St. Joseph, MO, teaches kids safety techniques for a variety of situations, from traffic safety to tornadoes to poisons. Here, Sheriff Hardin tells how one piece of what her daughter learned at Safety Town made all the difference during a dog attack.
